The position and tasks

Stevenson is looking for an English-speaking editor to fill a full-time position in comparative editing of translated texts. Candidates are passionate about their profession, they respect the meaning of the original source text, and tone, and they are creative. Candidates will also have to perform terminology research in different specialized fields, and they will be called upon to proofread in-house translated texts.


Ensure consistent use of terminology within texts of specific clients

In-depth knowledge of Canadian English, grammar, syntax, etc.

Ability to work comfortably at a pace of 6000 to 8000 edited words a day

Adaptation to both author styles and readers

Ability to work alone, as a team member, and under pressure

Ability to meet tight deadlines

Terminology research

Attention to detail

Use of available translation memory tool (Trados)


Prerequisites

At least five years’ of experience in a full-time position doing editing

Experience in proofreading of English texts

Experience with a variety of different texts: general, specialized, AND technical

Confirmed computer skills in a Windows environment and with Trados

Excellent knowledge of the source language: French

Excellent writing skills

Other criteria

Bachelor’s degree in Translation or equivalent education

Experience with Trados

Experience with the MS Office suite

In-depth knowledge of another field is an asset

Ability to work under pressure

Ability to multitask

Ability to develop excellent relationships with colleagues and clients

Professionalism, open-mindedness, autonomy, conscientiousness, efficiency

Member of OTTIAQ or ATIO (Note: Being certified is mandatory, you must be willing to become certified if you are not already.)
