Lead Software Engineer - Python/NLP

We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer with Python development experience, who is smart, dedicated, a quick learner, and a great cultural fit for our team - we love the “can do” attitude. We are building large-scale distributed applications that use Machine Learning and NLP for processing very large volumes of documents, extracting various entities, and matching them to relevant authorities. The foundational metadata our teams create enables the most sophisticated customer experience Thomson Reuters offers in many Legal, Tax, and News scenarios.

About the Role 

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will: 

  • Show Leadership - lead a small team of developers to deliver features on time by giving solid technical direction

  • Design and Develop - new software’s, make modifications to existing software, or integrate software applications and modules per agreed upon specifications while using best practices, create and execute unit testing and integration testing ensuring the software meets requirements to deliver high quality

  • Be a Team Player - work in a collaborative team-oriented environment, share information, value diverse ideas, partner with cross-functional and remote teams

  • Be Curious & Innovative - identify and implement short term and long-term solution, suggest improvements to mitigate risks, and remediate solutions 

  • Be an Agile Person - participate in planning sessions, analyze requirements, provide work breakdown and estimates 

  • Be an Effective Communicator - articulate complex technical issues, and share ideas, participate in peer reviews

  • Take Ownership - create and maintain required documentation, provide timely status updates 

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Lead Software Engineer if you have: 

Basic qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience in software development using Python frameworks/libraries (spacey, pandas, flask, etc.)

  • 5+ years experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS - storage, compute, serverless, EMR/Glue/Spark/SQS/SNS/API/Roles/S3, etc.) and REST API

  • 4+ years experience developing NLP and ModelOPS, deployed to production environments

  • Experience with CICD practices for Microservices and serverless solutions (GitHub)

  • Familiarity with Agile software methodologies

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience   

  • Knowledge of JavaScript and the AngularJS framework is a plus
