Location: Burnaby, CanadaL’Activité Mondiale Systèmes de Transport Terrestre fournit des solutions de signalisation ferroviaire pour les grandes lignes et les transports urbains, des systèmes intégrés de communication et de supervision, des solutions billettiques et les services associés.La présence de Thales à Vancouver date de 1985 lorsque son système de commande des trains par télécommunications, appelé SelTrac®, a été inauguré sur la nouvelle ligne Expo du réseau de transport en commun Skytrain. Nos bureaux se sont agrandis et se sont ensuite établis à Burnaby en 2015. En étroite collaboration avec le centre de compétences Thales de Toronto, l'équipe de Burnaby est chargée de concevoir, de tester, de livrer et de soutenir les projets de signalisation ferroviaire urbaine pour des services de transport en commun dans le monde entier. Ces nouveaux bureaux s’étendent sur 32 000 pieds carrés répartis sur deux étages. Entièrement rénové, le site inclut des salles de vidéoconférence, des espaces propices à la collaboration, des salles de réunion modulables ainsi que des espaces dédiés aux essais et simulations. Thales a également constitué une équipe technique chargée de soutenir les chantiers navals Seaspan de Vancouver en matière de programmes maritimes et de surveillance côtière.Thales people architect solutions that support 85 million mainline and suburban passenger journeys, worldwide, every day. Our Rail Signalling and Communication systems are used on metro lines across major cities, and 72,000 kms of route, 52,000 trains per day in 16 countries are controlled by our Traffic Management Systems. Together We deployed the first-ever nationwide ticketing system which processes over 50 million ticketing transactions in 100 cities daily.Thales’ presence in Vancouver originates from 1985, when our Communication-Based Train Control system, SelTrac ® was inaugurated on the new SkyTrain Expo Line. Our expanded office in Burnaby was then created in 2015. The team designs, tests, delivers and supports urban rail signaling projects for transit systems around the world, working in close cooperation with Thales’ Centre of Competence in Toronto. The new office features 32,000 sq. ft. of modern, renovated space across two floors, and includes video conferencing rooms, collaboration spaces, configurable meeting rooms, as well as advanced test and simulation facilities. Thales has also established a core technical team in Vancouver that is supporting Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards on naval and coast guard programs.

The Project Safety Manager represents Thales in front of the customer (external or internal) for any Safety related matters and:

  • Represents Safety in the Projects (external and internal) as the one accountable contact point
  • Organizes and plans the Technical Safety strategy  for safe and on time customer delivery

Key Accountabilities:

  • Defines, identifies and coordinates Project Safety Team to implement Safety strategy
  • Executes Project Safety through schedule and critical path management and risk/opportunity management. (including coordination of Safety Assurance, Independent Validation and RAM) for on time delivery
  • Manages and anticipates team workload demand according to project/product needs and coordinates allocated resources executing product/project hazard and safety analysis activities
  • Enforces Technical Safety discipline processes and guarantees adherence to the Project’s safety plan
  • Anticipates and escalates Technical and/or resource issues on Projects
  • Supports Technical Safety Discipline in the areas of lessons learned, capitalization, knowledge sharing, training, competence management, metrics collection and KPIs
  • Prepares Safety plans/strategies and safety cases (platform, generic application, specific application - design and implementation) to demonstrate the system is safe for its intended purpose.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma either from Business or Technical Background
  • P.Eng Certification
  • 10 years of experience in engineering field
  • 5 years of experience managing medium to large sized projects
  • Detailed knowledge of system lifecycle, safety design principles and risk analysis.
  • Experience in safety/technical management role in safety critical industry - avionics, defence, medical, automotive, etc.
