Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) is seeking a full-time innovative, academic leader in Radiation Oncology with experience in modern radiation oncology and gynecologic malignancy. Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. The Odette Cancer Centre is the comprehensive cancer program of SHSC and houses one of North America’s most dynamic and largest radiation oncology programs. SHSC provides an exciting and dynamic research environment for radiation oncologists to work alongside a diverse team of health care professionals which include 30 radiation oncologists. Over 7500 new radiation oncology patients are seen each year at the Odette Cancer Centre which is equipped with 13 linear accelerators, gamma knife, MR-Brachytherapy, MR-Linac, in addition to PET/CT and MR imaging. The centre offers advanced clinical and research programs in IMRT, IGRT, SRS, and SBRT and has a medical physics department comprised of over 40 staff. The academic radiation oncology cancer program at SHSC is one of North America’s largest.
The candidate is expected to develop an active radiation oncology practice in treating gynecologic and other tumours with MR-based technology. The candidate will have radiation oncology training and appropriate additional fellowship training in gynecologic oncology (ongoing or completed). Fellowship experience including MRI-guided treatment and experience in a MRI-Linac program is an asset. It is expected that the candidate will lead and contribute to the development of new programs in MR-Linac and MRI-guided brachytherapy. The candidate will contribute to the development of programs capitalizing on investments made institutionally in ablative radiation oncology, biobanking, genomics, proteomics and radiomics made under the umbrella of personalized medicine.
The successful candidate will have protected academic time and is expected to develop and conduct an active academic research program complementary to ongoing work in radiation biology, or radiation physics, ultrasound imaging, or technology research, or clinical epidemiology in addition to participating fully in the teaching programs of the Department. The candidate ideally will have, or be enrolled in, a graduate degree in biomedical or clinical sciences at the Ph.D level. Formal statistical training is also a highly valued asset with ideally a graduate level education in public health/epidemiology. Furthermore, experience with biostatistics and epidemiology in the assessment and evaluation of new technologies is highly desirable. A second site of clinical activity is to be determined but a background in SRS/SBRT and breast cancer treatment is valued.
The successful applicant must also be eligible for medical licensure in the Province of Ontario and an academic appointment in the Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Toronto, at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher and should be eligible for appointment at the Sunnybrook Research Institute. Candidates with the potential to be appointed in the latter in the Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or Evaluative Clinical Sciences platforms as a Scientist, and in Radiation Oncology as a Clinician Scientist are encouraged to apply. Candidates should be eligible, and expected to apply for, a clinician scientist award (80% protected time). in the near future from the Ontario Association of Radiation Oncologists.
