Description

Reporting to the Sr. Director, Scientific & Medical Affairs, the appointee will provide strategic operational and scientific support of key initiatives to ensure their successful implementation. The appointee will be heading the MSL team in charge of providing non-promotional scientific, educational, and research support for Medicago’s Plant-Derived Quadrivalent Virus-Like Particles Influenza Vaccine.

The Manager will also be responsible for field-based activities such as developing and maintaining relationships with key vaccines experts and building a well-informed advocacy base for Medicago’s Product portfolio. The appointee will act as a channel for providing accurate and updated clinical, scientific and medical information to vaccines experts, health care professionals and other members of the scientific, provider and payer community, in compliance with all relevant company policies.

Major functions and responsibilities:
  • Develop Scientific & Medical Plan and MSL action plans for assigned product(s) and ensure alignment with Product Team;
  • Oversee training resources; regularly assesses the operational needs of MSLs and drives the implementation and execution of operational projects;
  • Lead a team of Medical Scientific Liaison, identifies medical and scientific gaps, and strategically prioritizes tactics to fulfill scientific and medical needs;
  • Manage implementation of Global MSL deliverables, training and resources for Medicago’s products;
  • Serve as a key scientific resource to the MSL team and internal colleagues in scientific & medical education for healthcare professionals through presentations at office visits, investigator meetings, advisory boards, medical meetings, and other appropriate venues to enhance product knowledge;
  • Assist with creation of strategy and aligned processes in support of MSL activities in collaboration with internal stakeholders;
  • Provide strategic direction to assist in the design and implementation of policies and procedures to drive appropriate conduct as well as meeting Scientific & Medical Affairs objectives;
  • Maintain business and clinical knowledge of the Vaccines landscape including current strategies, current and pending competitors, and new technology developments;
  • Identify and communicate key clinical and research issues and insights from industry leaders to appropriate Medicago’s departments to help shape company research, development, and strategies for investigational products;
  • Serve as an expert on cross-functional committees with internal and external stakeholders in support of needs of Key Opinion leaders (KOLs);
  • Maintain effective and appropriate communication and collaboration with Medical, Regulatory, and Legal personnel within the company to ensure appropriate timelines and procedures are met.

Requested skills

Required qualifications:
  • M. Sc. in Sciences with a minimum of 8 years in the Biopharmaceutical industry and expertise in vaccines is an asset;
  • Experience in supervision;
  • Understanding of healthcare systems affecting vaccination;
  • Understanding of the design and execution of research studies;
  • Understanding of regional medical practices and clinical decision-making regarding vaccine acquisition, ability to implement field medical tactics and activities which include, but are not limited to: vaccines, current products, outcomes, and basic health economic parameters.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to think strategically;
  • Understanding of highly regulated pharmaceuticals environment;
  • Ability to initiate and maintain relationships with medical community;
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, French knowledge is an asset;
  • Reporting to the Quebec City based Headquarter, the candidate must be available to travel 60% to 80% in Canada, US and Europe as needed.
