Job Description

The Opportunity

The Senior Solution Architect is responsible for lead data initiatives from architecture and modeling perspective for data and analytics capabilities within the Azure EDL 2.0 ecosystem, ensures IT and Data strategy alignment with its business goals. The role will collaborate with other Manulife Segment Architects, Engineers, and Business partners to define solutions for new projects and ongoing architecture modifications that may be required for ongoing optimization of the overall Ecosystem.


  • Establish and maintain architecture principles, standards, blueprints, lead digital transformation, developing data technology solution architecture frameworks, decommissioning or redefining legacy applications, data migration, security, privacy, etc.
  • Produce target state architecture, perform ongoing assessment and gap analysis, collaborate with the Segment Data Office Architecture team to move the organization toward the target architecture.
  • Drive standard methodology implementation of data pipeline design (ingestion/curation), data modeling, data store and consumer facing data structures.
  • Owning the vision of managing the application portfolio, including driving application portfolio roadmaps, program governance, data management, and total cost of ownership in alignment with distributed team
  • Developing Data Management and Governance Processes for Application Portfolio Management data including: collaboration with data owners and data stewards, innovating new ways to build and maintain data quality, and understanding the meaning of all critical attributes at a field and at an aggregate level
  • Ensure that data strategies and architectures are in regulatory compliance. Recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones are needed.
  • Select and implement the appropriate tools, software, applications, and systems to support data technology goals.
  • Collaborate with project leads and consultants and business unit leaders for all projects

What we are looking for

  • Guide in data solution architecture framework and practice for large and sophisticated organization and systems and implemented large scale end-to-end data management & analytics solutions
  • Guide in solution design practice supporting a data technology organization, covering areas such as Data Quality, Data Profiling, Data Governance, Data Security, Metadata Management, MDM, Martech, Data Lake, Data Mesh strategy, Lakehouse architecture with Delta Lake on ADLS, Data Archival and Data Migration strategies using appropriate tools
  • Guide in building and operationalizing BigData platforms in cloud using one of the public clouds, preferably MS Azure technology stack (Azure Synapse, Databricks & Unity Catalog, Azure Data Factory, Azure Purview, Azure OpenAI), Informatica MDM), Adobe Experience Platform
  • Guide in automating data pipelines in a Big Data ecosystem, DevOps and CICD.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) tools and BI tools, languages (e.g. Python) and reporting software (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)

Nice to have

  • 8+ years of professional experience in design and development of data solutions including data warehouses, data lakes, lake houses, business intelligence and analytics solutions.
  • Experience in hands-on solution delivery on Microsoft Azure Data PaaS stack
  • Hands-on experience on designing and developing data pipeline/ETL processes and automation in Azure and NoSql platforms.
  • Exposure to and an understanding of Agile scrum methodologies and experience of working in an Agile team
  • Understanding of collaboration tools like Teams, and JIRA
  • Experience with DevSecOps practices and CI/CD tools such as GitHub and Jenkins
  • Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Self-reliant and comfortable with a constantly evolving environment

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Salary range is expected to be between

$92,190.00 CAD - $171,210.00 CAD
