Manulife’s Global Wealth & Asset Management (Global WAM) segment has embarked on an exciting journey that is transforming the organization by harnessing the power of data and related analytics. We have an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about harnessing the power of data and brings to the table robust technical expertise coupled with strong communications skills.

The Chief Data Office in close partnership with key business stakeholders, Global WAM Operations and Information Services will support the transformation of the organization to ensure data is leveraged as a strategic asset supporting our business goals. The group’s objectives include:

  • A single, central source for data which is easy to access and describes how the data was obtained

  • Data quality continually monitored and accuracy improved

  • Common standards and policies for data governance

  • Flexible reporting tools to access data and adapt to changing business or regulatory requirements

The Senior Consultant, Data Governance will be a key member of a team of data professionals responsible for establishing and driving the successful adoption of the data governance program in Manulife’s Global WAM segment.  They will bring together their technical expertise, business knowledge  and communications skills to enable deployment of Data Governance (DG) and Data Quality (DQ) in GWAM.


  • Support the establishment Global WAM’s data governance program, including Frameworks, Policies, Processes, and Tools

  • Apply change management principles and utilize appropriate messaging/positioning to drive adoption of complex, unfamiliar concepts with a broad stakeholder group

  • Work with various stakeholders to deploy the GWAM data governance framework and core processes across business areas

  • Develop a data governance deployment roadmap for GWAM business areas that leverages the data governance framework while considering unique aspects of the business unit

  • Facilitate and coordinate regular touchpoints with business unit Data Governance teams to ensure we are progressing data governance in a consistent way across business areas

  • Collaborate with all groups within the Chief Data Office to ensure alignment across data functions and on target delivery of the group’s goals

  • Support the development of Data Governance processes such as metadata management, data access and data sharing

  • Develop materials for executive-level Data Council meetings


  • Promote organizational excellence through development of a culture of accountability, innovation and teamwork

  • Build strong employee involvement, engagement and collaboration within and across teams

  • Play role of change agent across the organization

  • Utilize innovative approaches to solve business data problems

  • Strong service orientation

  • Take personal accountability for issue resolution and instill accountability within their team members


  • Undergraduate degree in business, economics, or a quantitative discipline with asset management or financial services industry experience; CFA and/or MBA is an asset

  • Experience in the implementation of transformational initiatives requiring change management, communication, and training, preferably related to data or information management

  • Ability to explore, learn, and deploy innovative approaches and tools to support change, communications, and training activities

  • Experience bridging the business and technology worlds with the ability to effectively collaborate across teams to achieve desired outcomes

  • Confidence when dealing with investment professionals and senior management; ability to constructively challenge and influence stakeholders

  • Tenacity to push past challenges while maintaining focus on the objective is essential

  • Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills

  • Proficiency in data modeling, database and query language (e.g., SQL), data analysis and data visualization (e.g., PowerBI) is an asset

  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Visio and other communications/training tools

  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience

  • Prior consulting or advisory experience is an asset

  • Knowledge and experience with asset management systems and platforms is also an asset
