Role Summary

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Set-up Coordinator, the Press Set-up Operator shall:

  • Operate production equipment and produce parts to outlined requirements by using the tools provided (quality and quantity)
  • Be willing to upgrade skills through on the job training
  • Perform die setup, first-off’s and press change over according to schedule
  • Complete all production and quality documentation on time and as per requirement 
  • Ensure that the machine has a valid first off prior to start of operation
  • Perform part inspection by using equipment outlined in the inspection and record results as per the outlined requirements
  • Pack product according to the packaging instructions
  • Follow standardized work instructions
  • Produce parts to close tolerances, specifications, on time to ensure high productivity and part quality
  • Stop operation and report immediately any quality and health and safety concern to your Supervisor

Key Responsibilities 2

  • Ensure that press area is clean and organized at all times
  • Train new operators on equipment, tooling and product according to requirements
  • Able to maintain and adjust all press controls
  • Ensure that error proofing devices are working and that abnormal conditions are being communicated to your Supervisor (double blank detection, press force monitoring)
  • Communicate changes with fellow employees and Supervisors
  • Identify and update any preventative maintenance requirements using maintenance repair log
  • Ensure that all safety devices are in place and operational
  • Participate in the setup and problem solving regarding new tooling
  • Increase competence of press operators through training - minimize operator dependence on tool room and maintenance
  • Maintain an equipment and tooling open issue list and follow thru until closure / Measure effectiveness of open issues based on re-occurrences
  • Be capable of running / and troubleshooting press equipment

Key Qualifications/Requirements

 

  • Minimum of 1 year experience with press set-up
  • Strong command of the English language (verbal and written) process
  • Sound knowledge of statistical techniques to identify process improvements opportunities
  • Ability to use basic and advanced measuring equipment
  • Good documentation and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 14001 systems and WHIMS
  • Able to work as a team with fellow team members and personnel of other departments
  • Participate in team problem solving preventative / corrective action as required
  • Must be physical capable of performing duties in a press environment
  • Able to lift tooling up to 23 kg (50 lbs) to setup machines
  • Must be able and willing to work overtime as necessary including weekends when required
