Job Description

The Benefits & HR Programs Specialist will be responsible for researching, analyzing, evaluating and administering all of the company’s Benefits and HR programs - including wellness, health benefits, retirement, disability, and other monetary and non-monetary rewards and recognition programs. Reporting to the Manager, Total Rewards, the incumbent will also assess the market, internal conditions and government regulations to ensure overall programs are current and competitive. 


  • Coordinate and plan the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs  
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with all benefit plan and program providers 
  • Research and analyze plans, including medical, dental, and disability insurance, competitive practices; and recommend policy and/or program changes 
  • Support the implementation of insourced benefits administration through a new HRIS system (Ultimate Software) 
  • Support the design and development of a comprehensive benefits package to meet the needs of a changing workforce and business unit specific needs 
  • Administer and coordinate all benefit related HR programs including retirement, wellness, short/long-term disability, recognition, employee assistance, and insured benefits 
  • Serve as primary support to business, HR and employees in resolving benefits issues 
  • Proactively communicate and respond to all benefit and HR programs inquiries 
  • Review and submit all vendor invoices, resolve disputes, and report on fees and costs 
  • Ensure Indigo’s adherence to applicable laws and regulations in policies, processes and programs 
  • Maintain a working knowledge of employment legislation influencing benefits and HR programs 
  • Perform other duties as required, including the preparation of ad hoc reports, dashboards and presentations  
  • Have the ability to see the total organization with an integrated perspective 
  • Develop positive and productive peer relationships 
  • Work in a collaborative and constructive manner with team and cross functional partners 
  • Support the Manager, Total Rewards and working effectively with other members of the HR/OD team to achieve business goals 
  • Participate in the operational governance processes related to Total Rewards

  • Minimum 5+ years of combined Benefits, HR or Total Rewards experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field 
  • Retail experience is an asset 
  • Demonstrated experience with understanding benefits and HR program principles and practices 
  • Additional experience in benefit program transitions preferred 
  • Knowledgeable regarding provincial leaves programs 
  • Effective communication skills, including excellent written, oral and presentation abilities  
  • Demonstrated time management skills, including the ability to adhere to schedules and manage processes; the ability to organize and prioritize work to manage timelines and to meet defined deadlines in a fast-paced work environment 
  • Strong with numbers and detail oriented 
  • Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office products, with a focus on Excel, Word and PowerPoint  
  • Customer focused with the ability to manage multiple priorities at one time while delivering results 
  • Experience using People Management Software (Ultimate Software an asset) 
  • Occasional travel may be required
