Senior Auditor

Internal Audit is mandated with assisting the Company to achieve its strategic objectives and in protecting its reputation through the provision of independent, objective assurance designed to add value and improve operations. Internal Audit promotes continuous improvement in a strong risk management and control environment, and ensures alignment of internal processes with industry standards, expectations and regulatory requirements, while fostering a culture of respect, trust and integrity.

Position Responsibilities

Risk Management & Compliance, in adhering to applicable compliance obligations, including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing and internal Anti-Fraud Policy requirements, must remain the over-arching focus in carrying out one’s responsibilities as outlined below:

Audit Project Planning, Execution and Reporting (80%)

  • Document a risk and control matrix to summarize and assess the key risks, control objectives, control activities, and related test procedures
  • Design, conduct and document end to end process walkthroughs to assess the design effectiveness of key control processes
  • Design and execute test plans to assess operating effectiveness of control processes
  • Prepare working paper documentation and complete audit projects in accordance with the internal audit methodology
  • Identify, assess and document the root causes of risk management and control weaknesses
  • Validate audit findings and observations with Businesses
  • Document clear, concise and objective audit findings and observations on the results of audits, including recommendations that add value to the business
  • Assist in the preparation of internal audit reports
  • Follow-up on outstanding findings to assess timeliness and appropriateness of actions taken by management


Teamwork (10%)

  • Provide assistance to the Internal Audit management team in supporting group activities and reporting processes
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Internal Audit team members, other control and corporate functions, senior management and other stakeholders


Training (5%)

  • Relevant and approved training required annually in areas such as Compliance, Risk Management, Governance, Auditing and Interpersonal Skills
  • Maintain awareness of emerging issues in the regulatory and external environments to support internal audit advice and recommendations and share knowledge with the internal audit team
  • Maintain current knowledge of audit standards, tools and techniques
  • Maintain current knowledge of business developments for areas of audit responsibility
  • Assist in team development through acquiring and sharing of information with other internal audit staff


Special Projects (5%)

  • Support the Internal Audit management team in special projects (i.e. ad-hoc investigations, data analytics) as required

Formal Education

  • Bachelor's degree required in Business, Economics or equivalent
  • Certification(s)/Designation(s) preferred in related area (CA, CGA, CMA or equivalent)

Related Experience

  • 3 to 5 years’ of experience in internal audit, enterprise or business risk management experience in the financial services industry or direct residential and/or commercial mortgage lending practices
  • Knowledge and/or ability to learn the regulatory environment and expectations within the Canadian financial services industry (ie. OSFI, FINTRAC, AML, FCAC)
  • Experience in residential and commercial mortgage underwriting including reviewing credit files, analyzing and assessing underwriting decisions and related supporting documentation and credit and operational risk management activities.
