Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Public Health Inspector and the Manager of Public Health, the successful candidate will use their knowledge and skills to enforce The Public Health Act, 1994 and The Tobacco Control Act with their associated regulations. Teamwork is a vital part of this position in conjunction with the Public Health Nurses under the Primary Health Care portfolio. The Public Health Inspection department works very closely with diverse departments in the Saskatchewan Health Authority, community partners and other government agencies at municipal, provincial and federal levels to provide excellent care to the people of Saskatchewan. The wide range of field duties of this position requires good independent judgment and risk assessment to ensure quality and safety for the public. Above regular inspections, the PHI is also involved with promotion, education and enforcement of Communicable Disease including Rabies, plumbing and private sewage and water. Considerable travel is involved throughout the Southwest area that this office serves.

  • Bachelor Degree in Environmental Health
  • Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada), CPHI�
  • Valid drivers license and the ability to travel both within the Region and Provincially.

Candidates who have completed the 12 week practicum and are awaiting certification are eligible to apply. Preferred 1 year experience in Public Health Inspection Candidates must possess good oral and written communication skills and have working knowledge of computers Ability to apply and interpret all relevant legislation Candidates must be self-reliant, and able to work independently and within a team environment.

  • Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement. HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.

Additional Information

The successful candidate is responsible to obtain and provide an original Criminal Record Check (CRC) & Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) from their local police service, RCMP or previous country/countries of residence that is dated within the past six (6) months that is satisfactory to the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Internal candidates may be required to provide a CRC & VSC during recruitment and selection process.
