Hours: Monday to Friday - days and evenings, 8 hour shifts (0700-1500 & 1500-2300) (hours subject to change based on operational requirements)

This is what you’ll be doing:

The Anesthesia Assistant (AA) is a specially trained healthcare professional, with advanced academic and clinical education, who assists the responsible Anesthesiologist with all aspects of the anesthesia care plan formulated for a particular patient. The AA executes complementary and supplementary therapeutic interventions and monitoring task, functioning at times as a clinical extender. The AA will work exclusively within the Anesthesia Care Team (ACT) environment. This includes the Operating Room, Post Anesthetic Care Unit, Labour and Delivery and all other related areas where Anesthesia may be involved.

Under medical direction from the attending Anesthesiologist:

  • Provide preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative patient care and assessment.
  • Technical duties as required.
  • Other duties as assigned. May include statistical and workload capture, meeting attendance, capital equipment planning and acquisition and educational responsibilities.

  • Graduation from an accredited Anesthesia Assistant Educational Program
  • Member in good standing with relevant Professional College
  • Current ACLS required at time of hire
  • Current NRP
  • Current PALS an asset
  • Current experience in the operating room
  • Current experience initiating and maintaining non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation Caring, compassionate, customer focused attitude towards patients and families
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact effectively with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Satisfactory attendance and employment record

The ideal candidate is strong in patient centered care in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and should be ready to drive change and innovation. We require a person with good communication skills with a clear patient focus with the ability to manage execution and to foster teamwork and cooperation.
