Company description: Elkimia is a private company specialized in developing new and innovative products used for sun protection. We are seeking for R&D chemists with experience in organic chemistry (conventional and flow), Medicinal chemistry and Process development to fill two full-time positions. We offer an excellent salary package with a stimulating work environment.

Job Description:
Medicinal chemist position:

  • You will work under the supervision of Head of R&D,
  • You will perform multistep synthesis on lab scale under conventional and/or flow chemistry environments.
  • You will design new molecules and perform synthesis for specific sun protection/personal care related targets following rational design structure activity relationship (SAR). This includes lead optimization and new synthetic routes and pathway.

Process development position:

  • You will work under the supervision of Head of Process Development
  • You will optimize chemical process on 10g-100g scale in practical, eco-friendly, and low-cost manner.
  • You will actively contribute to transferring process conditions to KG-Tons scales.

Requested skills

Employment term:

  • Status: permanent, full time
  • Start day: immediate
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada
  • Must be a member of the ‘Ordre des Chimistes du Québec’ or pending application

 

Education:

  • Doctorate or Masters in Organic Chemistry from a Canadian university.

 

Knowledge and years of experience required:

  • 2 to 5 year experience in industrial work in chemical, pharma, biotech or research institutes
  • Demonstrated track record in design, development and synthesis of new molecules based on rational design
  • In-depth understanding of organic chemistry and reaction mechanisms
  • Knowledge and experience in analytical techniques: NMR, HPLC and MS.

 

Languages:

  • Fluency in French and/or English, oral and written.

 

Skills:

  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy and excellent analytical skills
  • Sense of detail and precision
  • Self-motivational and able to meet objectives with minimal supervision
  • Interpersonal skills with an excellent attitude for teamwork
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Hands-on skills and technical problem solving
  • Active in developing and fostering a safety work culture.
