Description

The Estimator / Project Coordinator will be responsible for interpreting structural and mechanical drawing packages, preparing accurate material lists, developing proposals and quotes for both fabrication and installation opportunities, and coordinate required resources required to meet delivery deadlines.Duties of the Estimator / Project Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

• Read/Interpret bid packages and technical drawings and specifications for preparation of estimates;
• Develop required tools to effectively estimate jobs;Quantity take offs;
• Work with shop and field supervisors to prepare execution plans;
• Develop detailed estimates;
• Obtain quotes for outsourced products and services;
• Prepare quotations and pricing proposals;
• Organize complete bid/ estimate packages for awarded projects to site supervisors for project execution;
• Coordinate, schedule and administer the execution of work packages with shop supervisors, field supervisors, internal support staff, vendors and clients;
• Communicate project status to managing staff; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience:

3+ years' experience estimating and coordinating fabrication and mechanical projects.

Education:

Post-Secondary training in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or similar field of study preferred. Candidates with significant proven equivalent experience will be considered.

Skills:

• Proven knowledge of estimating and costing of structural and mechanical steel fabrication and installation.Industrial experience preferred.
• Ability to read schematics, drawings and/or technical manuals.
• Excellent knowledge of fabrication and erection processes, material and equipment specifications.
• Prior formal welding, industrial mechanic experience an asset.
• Familiarity with governing codes and their relevance to projects.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
• Strong financial and numeracy sense.
• Advanced use of MS Office software (MS Word, Excel, MS Project).
• Exceptionally organized, analytical and detailed oriented.
• Excellent communication skills in English. French considered a strong asset.
• Ability to build and maintain relations with vendors, contractors and customers.
• Continuously seeking improvement of processes and policies.
