We are looking for a Product Owner.


Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: Montreal, Toronto, London, Winnipeg. 


Role description 


We are looking for a forward-thinking and passionate director-level Product Owner to be a part of Canada Life’s digital experience team, focused on creating a client experience that will improve the way our group plan customers interact with our organization. The Product Owner will own the end-to-end strategic direction for their aligned product and lead the various stakeholders in the organization through change, and demonstrate the ROI for the business.


What you will do 

  • Set an ambitious and clear product vision and communicate ‘the story’ effectively to key team members
  • Lead the end-to-end product strategy from inception
  • Responsible for delivering business value
  • Build backlog of product features, i.e. write user stories and acceptance criteria together with the work-cell team
  • Continuously improve the backlog, ensuring all items are clearly described, estimated and prioritized
  • Ensure customer-driven design considering user pain points and usability test results, while using market and industry knowledge to deliver a well-positioned product
  • Approve each feature and provide valuable feedback for the team
  • Drive sprint and release plans together with the Scrum Master
  • Exercise a strong decision-making mandate from the executive group to own the product end-to-end
  • Work with the Digital Solutions Architect to build a modular and reusable solution that fits into our larger enterprise

What you will bring 

  • Group Customer experience or prior B2B product ownership is preferred
  • You have proven knowledge of digital trends, user demands, and pain points to be able to create a high value product vision
  • Comfortable with technology/IT to enable engagement and discussion cross functionally to understand risks
  • Ability to confidently and quickly make priority calls and trade-off decisions
  • Experience in an Agile environment with specific Director-level Product Owner (or similar) experience preferred
  • Confident in building, leading and managing the backlog of work
  • Strategic mindset and the ability to link digital product value to business objectives
  • Commitment to use data to frame decision making
