Job Summary

The Team
The Formulary Management (FM) team leads the evidence-informed drug review process to ensure the PharmaCare formulary is appropriate, contemporary, cost-effective, and affordable-helping improve health outcomes for British Columbians. The Role
As Pharmacist 5, Team Lead, you’ll provide leadership and program management for the Formulary Management team, supervising pharmacists and other staff under the direction of the Director. You’ll oversee drug formulary processes, offer expert advice on pharmacy practice and policy, and represent the Ministry in inter-jurisdictional committees to ensure BC’s priorities are heard. This role combines clinical knowledge with strategic influence-shaping drug coverage decisions, guiding evidence-informed reviews, and building relationships with diverse partners and stakeholders. It’s an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on health outcomes while mentoring others and supporting equitable access to safe, effective, and affordable medications for people across BC.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from recognized Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences with a minimum Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
  • Current registration and License in good standing as a Licensed Pharmacist with the College of Pharmacists of BC.

Related experience must include:

  • A minimum of five years of experience as a licensed practicing Pharmacist.
  • Demonstrated experience in medical literature searches, analysis, appropriate interpretation of study results and critical appraisal of all types of medical literature.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Advanced degrees (e.g., Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), master or doctorate in pharmaceutical sciences, population and public health, health economics, or related disciplines).
  • Experience in leading or supervising pharmacists or other pharmacy team members.
  • Experience in applying critical appraisal skills as part of daily pharmacist duties.
  • Considerable experience (2+ years) in formulary management and have led an evidence-informed drug review process to determine formulary benefits through individual drug reviews and/or therapeutic/class reviews using relevant information for decision-making and business planning, including clinical evidence, pharmacoeconomic evidence, clinical practice input, patient input and a budget impact analysis.

This position can be based out of any of the locations listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four (4) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
