This position is based in J.B. Wood Long Term Care and provides recreation to the residents of this facility. The Recreation Therapy Aide, supervised by the Recreation Therapist, provides services in close collaboration with the rest of the Allied Health and Nursing team. This position will assist with the promotion of a comprehensive service for clients developing and implementing evidence based, client-centered practice based on therapeutic recreation standards of practice. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Therapy Aide, you will be working both independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team where you will contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services. Your role may include administrative duties such as ordering supplies, booking clients, tracking attendances, equipment inventory and preparing/cleaning the treatment area. Under the direction of a supervising recreation therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, audiologist, or speech language pathologist, you will prepare and/or apply routine interventions, promote patient (client, resident) healthy living, self-care independence and motivate clients to actively participate in assigned therapy protocols or programs. You may assist with client lifts and transfers, positioning, and basic activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) within the context of the therapy program.

Completion of Grade 12.

Minimum high school diploma Health Care Aide certificate or equivalent preferred Excellent communication skills and collaborative skills required. Related experience working with elderly or physically challenged individuals an asset. Previous experience working with Recreation in a medical setting will be considered an asset This position is anticipated to have high physical demands based on the client need. The successful candidate needs to be physically capable of pushing wheelchairs for an extended period of time, loading clients onto the bus for outings, supporting the clients in a range of physical hygiene tasks and performing client transfers over the course of a full shift.
