We have an exciting opportunity in our program for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the Alberta Kidney Care - North program. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The LPN provides patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal failure patient populations. The LPN will practice within the guidelines and philosophy of the AKC. You will be encouraged and be expected to work at your full scope of practice and provide a variety of nursing duties in accordance with current policies and nursing care standards. This position is based in the Drayton Valley Hemodialysis unit. Casual Employment: As a casual employee (on a call-in basis), you will not have a regular schedule and there will be no minimum hours guaranteed for any week or month.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills. Demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities. Must have Physical Assessment, IV Therapy and Medication Administration course. Must be able to lift 40lbs (18kg). Proof of successful completion of the CLPNA Administering Blood or Blood Products module is required if you were a graduate prior to June 2022 Basic computer skills required. The AKC -N program requires candidates to complete/pass Hemodialysis Training. Candidates with previous experience will be required to complete Hemodialysis Training as per Manager/Educators discretion. Hemodialysis Training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on classroom/instructor availability. The training is an intensive 4 week full-time schedule with an additional 2 weeks of full-time buddy shifts. A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to 2 weeks full time buddy shifts. Upon successful completion of the orientation the LPN will be able to proceed to the unit specific orientation - 2 weeks of buddy shifts as assigned by the Unit Manager. Required to attend 1-day mandatory post orientation (3 Months Post) in person for Edmonton zone employees and via zoom for outside of the Edmonton Zone employees. Advanced Practice Standards 3-10 & 16-17 required (found in the Competency Profile for Licensed Practical Nurses - 5th Edition on the CLPNA website).

Minimum 1-2 years recent Adult Acute Care experience. Recent acute and chronic hemodialysis and/or nephrology nursing experience.
