Edmonton Zone Continuing Care provides services through five main program areas: Home Living, Supportive Living, Facility Living, Transition Services and Palliative Care. We are looking for a Health Care Aide to join our Home Living team to provide professional support services in the homes of clients of all ages and stages of life. The Health Care Aide provides personal care and support to clients in a community setting. Work is assigned according to an established plan of care, in collaboration with the client, family and members of the multidisciplinary team. The Health Care Aide is supervised by a regulated health professional and may perform assigned restricted activities under specific circumstances. Documentation of pertinent information and care provision is required, as is participation in relevant in-service education. The Health Care Aide provides patient care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.

Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS HCP). Communication and assessment skills. The ability to apply health and safety principles in delivering care to clients in the community, to work effectively and cooperatively with others and to set priorities by organizing and scheduling work-related activities is essential. The successful candidate will work independently in clients’ homes, which could include congregate settings, single family dwellings, condos and/or walk-up apartments. Therefore, the successful candidate must be able to work in different settings and environments (home environments and weather conditions) as well as be able to lift and carry medical bags, which weigh approximately 25-30 lbs. This position will be based out of the Westview office but will provide support to home care's Suburban/Rural West team, which will include travel to the other home care network offices as required.

Previous experience in the health care field and work with older or chronically ill individuals. A Medication Assistance Certificate or prior experience in Medication Assistance.
