The South Health Campus (SHC) Wellness Centre (WC) is seeking an enthusiastic, conscientious and flexible Service Assistant who enjoys food, cooking and interacting with people. Under the direction of the manager and Wellness Kitchen (WK) Consultant the WC Service Assistant supports the effective and efficient functioning of the WK and WC. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: maintenance of a clean, sanitary, organized and well-functioning kitchen area (including cleaning of large and small appliances and storage areas), grocery and supply shopping, inventory management (restocking, management of perishable items), teaching kitchen class support as needed, WC front desk reception duties (in-person, phone and email), public and staff computer cleaning and maintenance, participant program registration using the online registration system, program promotion material distribution and support, maintenance of the lending library (re-shelving books, signing books in/out), community service brochure maintenance (organizing, ordering, restocking), clerical duties (photocopying, filing, database updating, event support) and being an ambassador of SHC - greeting the public and assisting with wayfinding or answering questions. The WC is a unique partnership between AHS and YMCA Calgary. We connect patients, staff and communities to information, resources and programs that encourage informed decision making and active participation in health. SHC is more than just a ''hospital''. It is an innovative campus environment which includes out/inpatient and wellness services, as well as prevention and public health learning opportunities for the community. Four key pillars guide the approach to care - Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient & Family Centred Care and Innovation. Due to COVID-19 this position will be redeployed to site screening until WC re-opening.

As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience providing administrative support and/or reception in an office setting. Familiarity and comfort in a grocery store to navigate and accurately shop from a list of grocery items and distinguish between varieties of produce or grocery items with minimal direction. Experience with inventory management - managing expiration dates, applying FIFO principles, minimizing waste, restocking grocery/kitchen items (small ware, cleaning supplies). Familiarity and comfort in a kitchen environment utilizing small and large household or commercial appliances (i.e. dishwasher, oven, stove top, microwave). Skill and ability to keep work environments tidy, organized, clean and sanitized as appropriate. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in person, by phone and on email. Ability to follow direction from supervisors and manager, and also contribute as a part of a team. Ability to follow established processes, but demonstrate flexibility as required. Intermediate level experience and comfort using the following in a business setting: Outlook (email), Word, Excel, and internet search. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language (reading, writing, speaking, listening).

Preferred Qualifications:

Grade 12 High School Diploma. Minimum 2 years providing administrative support and/or reception in an office setting within the last 3 years. Food Safe Certification. Completion of WHMIS Training. Understanding of PPE requirements. Participation in site committees/working groups or other to improve process and quality improvement. Demonstrated professional development.
