DIRECTOR, COMMUNICATIONS
LOCATION: WADA Headquarters – Montreal

REPORTS TO: Director General

POSITION OVERVIEW: The bilingual Communications Director is responsible for overseeing all matters relating to internal and external communications of the World Anti-Doping Agency.

This includes executive level strategy; global identity and brand awareness; athlete; stakeholder and media and relations; and information resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Communications:

  • Develop and implement a clearly defined and proactive communications strategy (based on brand positioning)– driving cohesive messaging for organization-wide campaigns and programs through various channels and tools (including new media).
  • Develop carefully targeted and integrated communication strategies for all WADA stakeholders groups.
  • Manage crises and issues communications.
  • Foster network of communications specialists in sport and anti-doping to expand understanding and delivery of programs and messages.
  • Provide an environment and mechanisms that encourage two-way communications with our stakeholders.

Brand:

  • Redefine a clear brand architecture, particularly WADA’s positioning and core values.
  • Develop clear, concise and persuasive brand messaging

Public and Media Relations:

  • Oversee all aspects of public and media relations.
  • Establish a proactive global media outreach strategy
  • Lead media relations staff in the development of key messages and responses as well as seeking and leveraging editorial opportunities.
  • Serve as spokesperson.

Athlete Outreach:

  • Supervise staff responsible for delivering outreach and awareness programs at major international events and promoting implementation of outreach model by anti-doping and sports organizations.
  • Develop WADA Athlete Committee into an effective representative of clean athletes who support anti-doping initiatives.

Information Resources:

  • Manage the creation and maintenance of information and content to support communications strategies.
  • Develop and maintain tailored communications channels including new and social media.
  • Oversee all outbound communications and the development of all public corporate materials, including  speeches, public statements, presentations, agency magazine, annual reports, , press releases, opinion pieces, position papers, WADA’s Web site, social media and digital content, as well as translations.
  • Manage external resources such as consultants, Web firms, designers and PR agencies.

General administration:

  • Manage a team of professionals.
  • Provide reporting on communication activities.
  • Introduce measurement metrics on all activity.
  • Develop and manage the communications budget.
  • All activities are performed in a bilingual French/English environment.
  • Lead media relations staff in the development of key messages and responses as well as seeking and leveraging editorial opportunities.
  • Oversee all outbound communications and the development of all public corporate materials, including  speeches, public statements, presentations, Agency magazine, annual reports, press releases, opinion pieces, position papers, WADA’s Web site, social media and digital content, as well as translations.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Perfectly bilingual: French and English
Knowledge of additional languages a definite asset
Undergraduate and graduate degrees in communications or related field
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the field of communications and public relations, with particular emphasis in written      communications as well as new and social media
Track record in conducting successful and measurable communication campaigns
Experience with or within government an asset
Excellent writing and editing skills in either of WADA official languages
Experience in the field of doping in sport and/or international sport in general
Proven ability to manage staff
Proven ability to manage budgets
Experience in crisis communications
Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Proven self-driven leadership
