Job Description:

Schedule: Must be available from 12h00 PM to 8h00 PM

The Retirement Consultant team takes pride in educating and providing investment advice to group plan members who are approaching or at retirement (including supporting the conversion of their savings/assets to income products). Our Retirement Consultants are salaried advisors, life licensed in all provinces and territories. They are familiar with pension legislation across all Canadian jurisdictions, and are well versed in financial matters including retirement planning, income solutions, investment strategies and products including annuities.

Our Retirement Consultant Team is part of the Client Solutions Centre (CSC) at Sun Life, which is inbound and outbound call centre located in Montreal and Toronto. In addition to working closely with retiring members over the telephone, our Retirement Consultants can expect some travel, where they would conduct in- person client meetings with Retirees at their employer location.

Main accountabilities:

  • Assist members with their retirement plan, while reviewing options, and providing clear explanations regarding retirement income products

  • Make recommendations and finalize retirement product selection, including offering retiree health benefits if appropriate

  • Ensure members understand the process and theory behind asset allocation, while assisting them with the review of their portfolio

  • Make specific investment recommendations based on the assessment of members' ability and willingness to bear financial risk

  • Project income scenarios/illustrations under the various income products (ie: RIF/LIF/Annuity) and ensure members understands the ramifications of each option

  • Responsible for achieving Retirement and Protection sales targets

  • Limited travel in Canada could be required to support in-person meetings as part of our University Custom Retirement Strategy

  • Keep abreast of product and industry changes, while being mindful of competitor information

  • Contribute to the CSC's ongoing success by providing suggestions and recommendations to help improve our client experience and the products and services offered by sharing insights gained by dealing directly with clients

  • Comprehensive and deep understanding of insurance products, wealth management products, financial markets, retirement options and annuities

  • Ability to impact and influence the decisions of group plan members to ensure they are choosing the right products, funds and services that match their needs, risk tolerance etc

  • High sales and a service orientation

  • Solid ability to organize and prioritize work

  • Solid Relationship management skills

  • Effective time and personal management in a Call Centre environment (balancing inbound and outbound calling, and less frequent in- person client meetings)

  • Analytical mind set with a proven ability to quickly understand client needs

  • Active listener with the ability to respond effectively to client feedback

  • Ability to positively adapt to change as products, processes and systems continue to evolve

  • Team oriented

  • Proven ability to impact and influence client decisions to ensure they are making the right choices based on their individual needs

  • Attention to detail to generate results while complying with client experience and quality standards

  • Experience as a financial advisor, consultant or broker, supporting clients within the Wealth industry

  • Successful completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and/or Canadian Investment Fund Course (IFIC) successfully complete it

  • Experience with Call Centres or telephone servicing

Required:

  • A valid and active Life License in Ontario (LLQP) or Insurance of person license in Quebec (1a), is a requirement of this role

  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation or Financial planner designation (IQPF)

  • Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada and worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
