As an Analyst or Associate in the Risk Management Solutions Group (“RMSG”) at National Bank Financial (“NBF'') you will be part of a team of derivatives originators and will interact with clients in all economic sectors and industries. You will be sitting on NBF’s trading floor in Toronto.

In this role, you will be supporting the origination team and actively be involved in generating hedging and trading ideas, development of materials to communicate ideas, pricing of derivatives, and execution of client transactions.

You will work closely with the trading and structuring teams as well as several other NBF departments including the investment banking, credit capital markets, debt and equity capital markets, market risk oversight, as well as settlements and operations teams.

This role will appeal to highly motivated individuals who have a natural curiosity, want to understand “why”, and who like to get things done. This position is a gateway to pursuing a career in derivatives or capital markets.


Your job


  • Prepare materials to communicate transaction ideas and explain concepts to clients
  • Generate a variety of data-based reports and analysis
  • Price and execute various derivative transactions using models
  • Automate manual procedures and tasks
  • Conduct a variety of company, market research and risk analysis
  • Prepare market commentary
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations
  • Perform various tasks to support the team members in their transaction origination and client coverage efforts

The RMSG team’s mandate is to help clients manage their financial market risks and costs by executing transactions with them. Our mandate is cross-asset covering interest rates, foreign exchange, equities, credit, commodities including energy, metals and agricultural derivatives.

The group currently consists of over 60 professionals located in offices in Montreal, Toronto, and Calgary. RMSG has demonstrated considerable success over the last decade, experiencing strong profitability, significant growth in the number of clients, transactions, and revenues.

As an established provider in the derivatives markets, RMSG is committed to adding high potential individuals to its team and training and developing their talent over time.

Although the emphasis is placed on analysis, pricing and written presentations, candidates must also show the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and other advisors.


Basic Requirements


  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, actuarial science, computer science, engineering or economics
  • Superior analytical and quantitative proficiencies
  • Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, a working knowledge of Visual Basic or Python and Bloomberg Terminal
  • Demonstrated a natural curiosity, a problem-solving mindset, a collaborative approach and great team spirit
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Verbal and written communication skills in French is considered an asset
