Description
SNC-Lavalin is seeking candidates for the position of Mining Engineer for its Mining and Metallurgy Division, based in Montreal, Canada. The nature of the Mining & Metallurgy industry requires a candidate with national and international exposure and will involve assignment on projects with national as well as international clients. Relatively frequent travel will be required of the incumbent. The position reports to the Director of Technology Group of the Mining & Metallurgy Division of SNC-Lavalin.
Responsibilities: The Mining Engineer will be responsible for providing consulting services and technical expertise for clients in the Mining industry worldwide.
As Mining Engineer, the incumbent will carry out mine planning and mine design for the development and exploitation of underground and open pit mines. The Mining Engineer is responsible to complete part or all of the following functions:
In addition to these functions, the Mining Engineer will be called-upon to assist in business development activities, such as the preparation of proposals to prospective clients, including development of scopes of work, of execution methodologies, of engineering estimates, definition of project schedules, and the identification of project teams. This business development function will require making presentations to potential clients, both in Montreal and outside Canada.

- collect data and perform economic studies for the exploitation of ore bodies, taking in considerations environmental and social conditions;
- develop safe and effective mining methods for the exploitation ore bodies;
- ascertain appropriate drilling and blasting patens for the mining extraction and provide advice on these methods;
- design, develop and test computer applications for the design and simulation of mining model;
- design or select mining equipment in collaboration with others mining specialists;
- prepare technical specifications for mining operations and execution schedule.
In addition to these functions, the Mining Engineer will be called-upon to assist in business development activities, such as the preparation of proposals to prospective clients, including development of scopes of work, of execution methodologies, of engineering estimates, definition of project schedules, and the identification of project teams. Requested skills
- niversity degree in Mining Engineering;
- Minimum 5-8 years experience, with relevant experience in mining engineering, from a design and from an operating perspective;
- Capable of using mine planning and design software such as: Vulcan, MineSight, Gemcom, etc;
- Be eligible for the « Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec » (O.I.Q.);
- Ability to be assigned on international projects, requiring frequent and extended travel;
- Fluency in French and English languages (spoken and written). Other languages skills is considered a significant additional asset;
- Excellent communications skills;
- Capable of working under tight deadlines, whilst achieving objectives;
- Team player is essential.
